Snoring

Snoring can be more than just a nuisance. It can be the reason for trouble breathing and sleeping at night. However there is a solution for constant snoring throughout the night. There are many dental devices that can reduce or eliminate snoring completely. These dental devices are worn in the mouth during the night and are made to keep the tissue in the back of the throat from collapsing and closing the airway. There are also other devices that keep your tongue in place, thus preventing it from falling back and closing off the windpipe.

The first dental device used is something called a mandibular advancement splint. This is made to bring your lower jaw slightly forward and lift your soft palate. This dental device stops the collapsing of the soft tissue in the back of throat, thus opening the airway which stops the snoring.

The second most common dental device used to treat snoring is called a tongue retaining device or splint. This uses a soft silicone cup that holds the tongue in a forward position throughout the night to keep it from blocking of the airway. This device does not depend on surrounding teeth; however it uses a suction to keep the tongue forward.

All of these dental devices need to be fitted by your dentist. Also keep in contact with your dentist throughout wearing these devices. Routine checkups are necessary to make sure there is no damage done to surrounding teeth or gums. Of the people that use these dental devices to eliminate snoring 84% say that snoring loudness has reduced as well as frequency throughout the night. These dental devices can made a tremendous change in the way you sleep.
